It’s time for a garden update! I was away for the weekend and came home to quite the treat…radishes!!! These radishes are the first harvest of the year, besides the onion some creature dug up.
I’ve also taken photos of my other veggies to show you all how they’re coming along.
First, the tomatoes are about the same size, likely due to lack of heat…boo, hopefully they pick up soon. Come to us, sunshine! 🍅🍅
Below you can see our onions are very floppy…the green stems resemble fainting goats. Does anyone know if this is a normal thing for growing onions to do?
The bokchoy is tall, but thin. I assume the stems are on the cusp of bulking up. Here’s hoping! Unfortunately as you can see something is eating the bokchoy leaves (damn you creatures, damn you!). There’s many wood bugs roaming around…perhaps they are the culprits?
Carrots, oh yes carrots! They’re doing well, looking more like carrots everyday. They are about 4 inches tall. All I want is one purple carrot ☺
Not pictured are my beautiful and lively pea plants which are about 5 feet tall.
How is your garden coming along? Have you harvested anything in the last week? I am so excited to hear about your garden adventures and maybe learn something from you as well! I can’t explain the feeling of excitement when these radishes came out of the ground; so rewarding! 🌱🌱

My vegetables are still in its baby stages. I planted the seeds directly in my garden and the tallest one is about 2 inches. I think the lack of heat is slowing things down too. I better read up on those pests!

Some seeds sure take awhile to develop! Which ones did you start from seed in your garden? My carrots are about 3-4 inches tall and have been in for over a month! I feel ya on the lack of heat, I’m worried my tomatoes will be so stunted they won’t do well once it is warmer.

I planted tomatoes, cabbage, beets, Swiss chard, zucchinis about 3 weeks ago. I am going to start growing some indoors just in case I need back up!

I grew carrots for the first time last year and they do take a long time, like 3-4 months. They are so worth it, though!

Oh yum! what great looking veggies. Don’t worry about the tomatoes. They will take off once it’s warmer–especially once nights are warm as well!

Your radishes look awesome!! I’m not sure if it’s normal for onions to be floppy, but mine are too! Haha so I guess it can’t be a bad thing.

It is a thrill harvesting your own homegrown food and eating it fresh out of the garden. My favorite is a plucking a sun warmed tomato and taking a big juicy bite – it’s the best!

I wouldn’t worry about the onions – they don’t look that floppy to me actually. They look great! From what I have read, weather (like too much rain or not enough sunlight) can cause them to flop some. But they will flop anyway when they are developing their bulbs and nearing harvest time and the leaves start to yellow.

Wood bugs are eating my pac choi!! They love the watery fleshy base. I see them munching away when I go to pick it. Your plants are still small – much smaller than mine at this point. I would think you will see them start to thicken up in the next week or so. Love all the close ups!

Your onions look beautiful! Mine are probably going to be a near total bust this year. We’ve had oppressive heat and no rain. I water but my poor onions seem to have given up the ghost. You’re doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

I agree your onions look fine 🙂 Mine were all over the place and definitely drooped significantly when they were developing bulbs, as Kwlowery mentioned. They all turned out very well though – incredibly sweet! Just wish I had room to grow more!
