Ahh it feels good to be back! How are YOU?! I’m eager to hear how all my blog buddies are doing.
This year has been a cold one so I’m just beginning to plant seeds now! Unbelievable! This week I will be planting: carrots, radishes, beets, bokchoy, spinach, wild flowers, potatoes and spaghetti squash.
Spaghetti squash is a new one to me…I’ve never grown a squash and I’m wondering if anyone can help me out. I hear I need to make a mound of sorts?
Anyway I’ll be posting photos in the coming days. Now I want to hear all about what YOU are growing! Do share xox 🌱🌱🌞
I do t garden but my father in law does. I’m not sure exactly what he planted but he usually does corn, and several different kinds of beans plus other stuff I can’t remember.

Romano beans, kale, zucchini and tomatoes are our staples every year. We found that so many crops we planted we just did not reach for when they were ready! You will do great with the squash…I would recommend making your mounds closer to the middle of your bed though as the squash vines will spread EVERYWHERE! Enjoy!

I would say that zuchini is by far the easiest of all the squashes to grow since it grows so fast! All the others take longer to mature. Give it a try! With all squash, learn to ID male and female flowers. If you are not getting squash fruit you are probably not getting enough pollination and you can hand pollinate yourself if you can ID the flowers. Lots of easy diagrams online

Glad to see you back! I wouldn’t worry too much about hilling the squash, just make sure it’s got LOTS of manure and LOTS of water (consistently) and don’t plant it too close to your other plants. They sprawl like the dickens!

Your advice 💜💜 perfect. Thank you!!! Have you grown spaghetti squash before?

Yes! I grow them every year – I even grew them in pots on the deck for two years when I lived in a rental and didn’t have a garden. They are a very forgiving plant!

Agree with Sprout and Sprig. Hilling is not mandatory. I mulch, but don’t even fertilize..though my decomposing mulch kind of helps with that. So far, it’s just starts in the basement. Celery, lettuce, spinach, tomato, tomatillo, onion…we are praying that the different peppers all make an appearance sometime soon!

My list is long so I’ll stick to the new things I’m trying this year! Artichoke, an orange green striped honey melon called Kajari, water melon, sweet corn, celery, bokchoy, sugarloaf lettuce, chinese cabbage and leek. I always stick my squash on my compost heap, saves you hilling up. Happy planting!
